Everyone has known that writing articles is an effective SEO method to promote a web site. People use it to increase the link popularity and then PR of a web site as a consequence. It would be easy for you to find out some topics to write for at the very beginning. But sooner or later, you will face a situation that you cannot find anything to write for. And a lot of time will be spent on finding a topic instead of really writing some valuable content.

So, what can you do if you are in this situation. Below are some very effective ways I am using now.

1. Find Topics from Helium

You can find tremendous topics from Helium. As a web site where knowledge rules, people in Helium are required to share their knowledge under the given topics, and those topics could be the potential one you can write for. But how to filter out the topics which have close relationship with the content you plan to write for? There is a simple way you can follow. A search tool is provided by Helium, you can type in the key word related to your web site, system will return a list of topic from Helium which are related to the key word. And you can review all those topic to see what you can write for. The additional benefit here is that even you don’t know the answer for those topics, you can read through what the others have written about and then come out your ideas. Easy, right?

Another great thing about Helium is that you can write for it and get paid when each time your articles are read. Even it’s not a big deal, but you still can make some.

Find the topics from Helium has become the most important method I have used to promote my web site, and this is really very powerful.

2. Publish review for latest news in your industry

People tend to write the guideline under some specific knowledge area, but guideline is guideline, you cannot find out a lot of topics about it. So, writing review for the new events in your industry in the good idea. And there are always some event happened, so you will not be in the situation that lacks of materials.

3. Others

There are also some other methods you can leverage. For example, if you also use Blog to promote your business, you can get some idea from the comments of your visitors left under your blog. But from my viewpoints, the first 2 methods will be able to keep you busy enough. And the content you have written are really what people are looking for.

Blogging and Social Bookmarking for maximum traffic http://www.ashwinkhanna.com/archives/53 http://www.ashwinkhanna.com/archives/53#comments Tue, 24 Jul 2019 18:07:14 +0000 surburban http://www.ashwinkhanna.com/archives/53

Social bookmarking is one the best ways of generating traffic and creating a community around your blog. Your goal is to create a blog that is the authority on the subject. Their are probably many other bloggers out their writing about the same topic as you and you want to get in on that as well. To compete with them we are going to use a little elbow grease, some social bookmarking, and watch as the traffic comes flowing to your blog.

Here are 3 steps you can take to destroy your competition:

1. Write the best article you can about your subject. What I mean is, make sure to create an article that everybody in the world just has to read. Think like a reporter. What kind of titles do people use to draw a crowed and grab eyeballs. If you need help finding ideas search through digg.com’s home page and see the articles that have been voted for the most.

2. Submit your articles to as many social bookmarking sites as you can find. This is the way you are going to generate links and traffic to your site. The links come free from every person’s profile page when they vote for your article, and the traffic will come when your article reaches the first page of those social bookmarmking sites. The amount of social bookmarking sites you want to submit your article to is up to you. I usually use only 5 or 6 for my best articles and I don’t bookmark all my articles.

3. Repeat the process. Make sure to try again if you fail to reach your traffic goals. Social bookmarking is great, but the visitors are interested in the article, not your blog…yet. You need to increase your exposure by writing amazing content over and over again. Remember, never give up and watch the traffic flow to your site.

Increase your PageRank using ViralTags http://www.ashwinkhanna.com/archives/52 http://www.ashwinkhanna.com/archives/52#comments Sat, 21 Jul 2019 20:44:43 +0000 surburban http://www.ashwinkhanna.com/archives/52

ViralTags are a great way to increase your pagerank and technorati authority.

======= Copy and Paste below this line =======

Instructions:

1.) Copy and paste the matrix of “ViralTags” below.

2.) Substitute the Host Tag and one of the “Viral Tags” in the matrix with your anchor text of choice with your blog’s URL. Please keep anchor text to a max of 3 words to keep the matrix size manageable.

3.) When you get a ping back from someone that has your link in one of their “Viral Tags”, practice good karma by copying his/her Host Tag’s anchor text (automatically the associated link will also be copied) and paste it over one of your “Viral Tags” below.

4.) Encourage and invite your readers to do the same and soon this can grow virally.

Host Tag: Ashwin Khanna Dot Com

Pro Blogging Tips | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags | ViralTags |

Important: Once I get a ping back from you (I promise to do the best I can), I will add your anchor text and the associated link you designate as “Host Tag” here, replacing one of the “ViralTags” from the matrix above. As more and more bloggers copy and paste this matrix, the more backlinks you will have with your anchor text. If everybody who copy and paste from your blog does the same, pretty soon this will spread and go viral. So, the sooner you participate, the more links with anchor text you will receive.

Blog Review - Ryan Shamus Dot Com http://www.ashwinkhanna.com/archives/46 http://www.ashwinkhanna.com/archives/46#comments Wed, 18 Jul 2019 17:08:08 +0000 surburban http://www.ashwinkhanna.com/archives/46

Finally I found a bit of time to post my first blog review - Been busy with emails and questions regarding my competition.

So, Ryan Shamus Dot Com - Who is he? Here’s a bit from his about me page:

Ryan Shamus is just a normal guy who is trying to blast his blog in to the highest realms of the blogosphere! It might take several hundred years to do so, but half the fun is trying, right?I love to fish, blog, read, tinker with PC’s, think, brainstorm, shoot, eat, eat, sleep, play video games, watch good movies, listen to music, eat, and many other things!I have a vision and goal to eventually earn enough money from online ventures to fully support myself with a full time income from it. It’s been done by so many other people, so I want to prove to myself and others that I can do it too!

Ryan has only been blogging for 3 months, yet he boasts 104 posts, a technorati link rating of 499 and an Alexa rank of 192,999. Nice!! His slogan of ‘Helping bloggers along the way’ is essentially what his blog does. His daily posts have lately consisted of promoting different contests for bloggers to participate in, but previously posts on making money online have proved to be a hit with readers.

Some of his top posts include:

An essential test to see if the blog can straight away engage the reader - i.e. that the reader straight away knows what the blog is about, is the 5 second test. Essentially you bring up the site for 5 seconds and then close it. If you fully understand what the site is about when you have closed the site page, then the blog has passed.

I went along with the test for Ryan’s blog and in the 5 seconds, managed to remember his bright title and categories but not as much his dim slogan. Ryan, change the colour of ”helping bloggers along the way” so new readers straight away know the point of your blog. It’s just a suggestion.

His blog sidebars are not that bad - however loading times for Adsense are long. He also has a featured sites section and a host of ‘money makers’ which seem to all come from ClickBank. He uses Kontera Content Link too, however these just show up randomly.

Personally, for a blog of 3 months, I think Ryan has done extremely well. It seems like he has built up a group of loyal readers, and churns out the posts consistently. The only thing that I am not too sure about is the blog template. The gap on the right hand side is just a waste of space. Maybe it looks differently in FireFox?? Who knows, but this is definitely a blog to keep coming back to.

Good job Ryan - 7/10

Technorati Favourites Exchange : You know you want to! http://www.ashwinkhanna.com/archives/42 http://www.ashwinkhanna.com/archives/42#comments Wed, 18 Jul 2019 07:02:08 +0000 surburban http://www.ashwinkhanna.com/archives/42

Why the emphasis on Technorati? Simply because Technorati is a blog search engine, content aggregator, social website and ranking system which attracts a large number of bloggers, who are exactly the type of audience or readers I want for my blog.

The Technorati Top 100 most favorited is a simply list of blogs according to the number of people who have favorited them in their Technorati account.

Getting into the most favorited list does not depend on any other variable factors (such as link count over a period of time) except the number of favorites each blog receives. As of now, breaking into the top 100 will only require your blog to be favorited by more than 252 members. Fairly easy, in my opinion.

What are the benefits of being favorited?

Here are some reasons why getting into the Technorati 100 will be beneficial:

  • Provides social proof. Getting in the Top 100 provides social proof of your blog’s popularity. This will increase the attractiveness of your site in the eyes of advertisers and blog readers if mentioned or displayed prominently.
  • Expands your blog readership. You are more likely to receive visitors from Technorati if you are listed in the Top 100 most favorited list. Visitors are bloggers, which means that they are potential feed subscribers if you have quality content.

What’s the main goal behind this Technorati Favorites Exchange?

The goal of this experiment is simple, to break into the Technorati Top 100 and determine the exposure and traffic benefits of being included in the Top 100 list.

Won’t this experiment skew the Technorati Favorites Ranking System?

Reciprocal favoriting is not against Technorati’s TOS and I’m sure that most of the people who participate will have some sympathy towards this blog because you wouldn’t be reading this if you aren’t interested in either a) Technorati favorites or b) this blog.

How do I Participate in this?

This exchange is open to anyone who owns a blog. As long as your blog is not full of spam or copyrighted material, you’re free to participate.

Here are the steps you can take to get started:

1. Participate by Exchanging Favorites

This is fastest way to join the exchange program. Favorite my blog by clicking here and then please leave your Technorati username as well as a similar link to your blog in a comment.

To make things easy, I suggest using a Technorati favorite link or button. You can get the buttons and links easily at this Technorati page. Please leave a link to one blog only.

My Technorati nickname is Surburban and I will favorite all the links as soon as possible. I won’t be leaving any comments to confirm this because I’ll just be repeating myself constantly over the comment section.

Please periodically check to see who has favorited your blog and do also let me know if I’ve left you out.

2. Link to this blog post with your Post on Technorati Favorites

This is only for those bloggers who are interested in holding Technorati exchanges on their blog as well. These are the steps you need to take:

  • Create a post on your blog announcing that you are exchanging Technorati favorites. Prominently include a link to this post to indicate that there is a similar exchange going on at Ashwin Khanna Dot Com.You can use any link text you want. I do however prefer that you make a new post on this topic instead of putting the link in a old post that is already deep in your archives.
  • I will then link to your site and your post on your own technorati favourites exchange so people can favourite you..

How the evolution of websites is necessary to stay in business - Case Study: MSN.COM http://www.ashwinkhanna.com/archives/40 http://www.ashwinkhanna.com/archives/40#comments Tue, 17 Jul 2019 18:02:20 +0000 surburban http://www.ashwinkhanna.com/archives/40

David Lithman ( Lithman ) did a post on the evolution of Yahoo! which did great things for his website. Here I am going to talk about another top ranking website, MSN.

Evolution is defined as ‘any process of formation or growth; development’. In order to be successful in the dot com industry, you must learn to adapt and evolve. Web sites have to stay current with the latest trends or they risk losing visitors, or even worse folding all together. MSN is the perfect example of an ever evolving website. Their new innovations and designs helped them not only survive the dot com bust, but come out even stronger. Today MSN is one of the most visted websites in the world and currently is ranked at number 2 on Alexa.

October 1996
This is one of the first captures of MSN on the internet. It is a pretty basic webpage with the only bit of colour coming from the advert for msCASH at the top. They also advertise their Microsoft Expedia travel service and Microsoft Investor. Their slogan is one I have never heard from them - MSN.com - Made Fresh Daily

Fast forward to November 1999 and we see a fully functional website set up with a host of MSN sub domains such as entertainment, games and sport. Note the old MSN logo - I have never seen that one before. Making the front page that day were the top wireless phones and something about ‘taking barbie on a trip’. What???? Also, you could have won a cool survival kit - You never what could have happened when the clock struck midnight and we entered the Y2K!

December 2000 saw the addition of the MSN logo we see everyday - however it has been spruced up for Christmas with snow etc. The webpage is very similar to the previous year except for the addition of new MSN services such as Maps and Bargain Center.

December 2001 saw a change in the look of the site. I personally find the brown and purple disgusting. They now have the MSN channels list up, but apart from that, the content is the same.

October 2002 saw the hideous brown header at the top go and was substituted with a girlish pink. The website looks very feminine now. Introduced here was a list of worldwide MSN sites but apart from that, nothing else new. Bring on another year.

November 2003 again saw a change in colour. The website is now all blue, yet the features are still the same. Front page is more content rich than subpages - similar to previous years. Hmmmm, not much going on..

Finally, a major change was seen ( July 2004) on the website. The layout completely changed and got itself a new user friendly interface. Each category is sectioned off nicely and there is a different colour for each area. The four most used tabs look appealing (my msn, hotmail, messenger, new search), and the subpages include adverts, interesting images etc. Heck, they even have a most searched section.
Notable items on site - the most stolen US vehicles & how to teach your child to ride a bike.. awww bless.

MSN didn’t hold out on that design for too long as in February 2005 they introduced another design which is more well known to me. Notable inclusions with this was MSN desktop (beta) and the ability to change colours. Nice.
MSN also ditched the array of colours and decided to stick with blue and white. Something for the better?? Perhaps…

2006 again saw a change in layout. The background is a brighter blue and MSN finally ditched the sidebar listing of categories. I thought that it was a pretty nice touch. A big new feature was the introduction of their 3D maps - to rival Google? - and QnA (beta).

Hit the present day and it all looks similar to 2006. And why not, seeing as the site has been changed enough times. The only slight difference I see is the page options where you have a choice of four exciting colours and extra stuff such as increasing the width of the page.

What this has shown you is that for websites to be a success, they gotta keep changing to meet the current trends. Okay, some of you may say Google has not done much to its layout -it has, just very slightly. Plus the array of services it provides is reason enough for it to be one of the greatest websites of all time.

25 tips for marketing your blog http://www.ashwinkhanna.com/archives/39 http://www.ashwinkhanna.com/archives/39#comments Tue, 17 Jul 2019 16:47:39 +0000 surburban http://www.ashwinkhanna.com/archives/39

I was over at www.searchengineguide.com and came across a great article on blog marketing which I had to share with you.

With so many blogs being created every day, it?s a mystery to many bloggers how to make their blog stand out. There are many types of blogs or purposes for blogs and a certain number of tactics are applicable to just about all of them, so here is a short? list of tips for marketing and optimizing a blog:

1. Decide on a stand alone domain name www.myblog.com or directory of existing site www.mysite.com/blog. Sub domain is also an option blog.mysite.com. Avoid hosted services that do not allow you to use your own domain name!

2. Obtain and install customizable blog software - WordPress and Moveable Type are my favorites.

3. Customize blog look and feel templates - aka design.

4. Research keywords and develop a glossary - Keyword Discovery, WordTracker, SitePoint, SEOBook Keyword Research.

5. Optimize the blog:

  • Template optimization - RSS subscription options, social bookmark links, HTML code, Unique title tags, URLs, Sitemap
  • Add helper plugins specific to WordPress or MT
  • Create keyword rich categories (reference your keyword glossary)

6. Enable automatic trackback and ping functionality.

7. Create Feedburner Pro account and enable feed tracking.

8. Setup Google acount for Sitemap, validate and prep for future submission.

9. Identify authoritative blogs, web sites and hubs for outbound resource links and blogroll.

10. Format archived posts, related posts.

11. Enable statistics for tracking - Performancing, Google Analytics, ClickTracks.

12. Submit RSS feed and Blog URL to prominent RSS and Blog directories / search engines.

13. Engage in an ongoing link building campaign.

14. If podcast or video content are available, submit to Podcast and Vlog directories.

15. Submit blog url to paid directories with categories for blogs - Yahoo, BOTW, bCentral, WOW, JoeAnt.

16. Optimize and distribute a press release announcing blog.

17. Request feedback or reviews of your blog in relevant forums, discussion threads. If you have a resourceful post that will help others, point to it.

18. Research and comment on relevant industry related blogs and blogs with significant centers of influence.

19. Post regularly. If it?s a news oriented blog, 3-5 times per day. If it?s an authoritative blog, 3-5 times per week, but each post must be unique and high value.

20. Monitor inbound links, traffic, comments and mentions of your blog - Google Alerts, Technorati, Blogpulse, Yahoo News, Ask Blogs and Feeds.

21. Always respond to comments on your blog and when you detect a mention of your blog on another blog, thank that blogger in the comments of the post.

22. Make contact with related bloggers on AND offline if possible.

23. When making blog posts always cite the source with a link and don?t be afraid to mention popular bloggers by name. Use keywords in the blog post title, in the body of the post and use anchor text when you link to previous posts you?ve made.

24. Use social networking services, forums and discussion threads to connect with other bloggers. If they like your stuff, they will link to you.

25. Remember when web sites were a new concept and the sage advice to print your web address everywhere you print your phone number? The same advice applies for your blog.
